Santa Monica Small Business Recovery Grant Application
The Santa Monica Small Business Recovery Grant Program is funded by the City of Santa Monica, the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce Foundation and community donors in order to provide economic assistance to small businesses impacted by COVID-19. The Local Initiatives Support Corporation ("LISC”) will be administering the Santa Monica Grant. Financial assistance will be allocated to eligible, qualified small businesses with final award recommendations based on availability of funds, program guidelines, and the submission of all required information and supporting documentation. Grant funds may be used towards eligible activities, listed below, associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Santa Monica Small Business Recovery Grant Program will provide one-time funding of $5,000 to brick-and-mortar small businesses located in the City of Santa Monica with gross sales under $2,000,000 based off of 2019 or 2020 Federal Tax Returns.
Please carefully review these guidelines as successful applicants must: submit a complete application by the date identified in the schedule, respond to correspondence from LISC or affiliated grant administrator, provide the required documentation, and comply with the grant agreement.
The eligibility requirements for the Santa Monica Small Business Recovery Grant Program are as follows:
1) Must have experienced financial hardship as a result of COVID-19. These impacts must be documented, quantifiable, and clearly related to COVID-19.
2) Must be existing Santa Monica brick and mortar small business (including, but not limited to: business services, print shops, equipment rentals, custodial services, retail stores, hospitality and restaurants, gyms, fitness centers, personal services, hair salons, nail salons, barber shops, etc.)
a. Note: Home-based businesses and non-profit entities are not eligible for this grant.
3) Must be open and operating business
4) Annual revenue under $2,000,000.
5) Must have been in existence since September 4, 2019.
The $5,000 grant may be used to cover rent, payroll and general business operating expenses.
Applicants may only apply for one entity. Applicants with multiple businesses may only submit one application for the business with the most revenue. Each grant is limited to one grant per applicant and business tax ID.
Finalists will be selected through an online, randomized application system, then notified via email and invited to upload verification documents via a secure portal. Being selected as a finalist does not guarantee a grant will be awarded.
As a finalist, the following Verification Documents will be required:
1. 2019 or 2020 federal tax returns, whichever is the most recently filed
3. ACH Form
Documentation must be provided within five (5) calendar days of written notification, unless extenuating circumstances exist. Failure to provide documentation may result in a denial of a grant award.
Once all Verification Documents are received and approved, the finalist will be paid $5,000 through ACH disbursement.
Conflict of Interest
Current directors, officers, employees, and contractors of LISC and such individuals' family members (spouse, parents, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and spouses of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren) are not eligible to apply or seek an award. Businesses owned, in whole or part, by a City of Santa Monica official or employee who, in his or her official capacity, participates in the oversight, development or implementation of the Santa Monica Grant Program are not eligible to apply or seek an award.
If awarded, please be advised that the business/applicant’s application information, name, statements, and other information provided during the award process may be used for promotional purposes in all forms and media and the business/applicant may be contacted by LISC, its agents and/or the program sponsors for such purposes. Until notified, applicants must agree not to share any status as a finalist publicly, including but not limited to all social media platforms, news media, or local publications.
It is recommended that before completing and submitting the online form, applicants save their answers in a separate backup document, as your work may not be saved if you leave the web page before submitting the application. You may also lose your work if your internet is disconnected, or as a result of other potential web browser issues. We cannot accept changes to your grant application once it has been submitted, so please review it carefully. You will see a confirmation page after successful completion of this application.
